News From Ruby

After resting on the trail between Cripple and Ruby, Aliy and the Red Team stopped in Ruby long enough to pick up some supplies and drop a dog. It looked like she and the dogs rested about 4 hours on the trail.

Laureli Kinneen, the trail reported for Nome's radio station KNOM, called Bridgett after seeing Aliy pass through the checkpoint. Laureli said that the dogs were wagging their tails and were ready to go! Laureli asked Aliy about her schedule since it is so different than the other top mushers. Typical Aliy, she said she is running what is best for the dogs!

Laureli didn't know anything about the dropped dog. Although we can guess that it is Rambler, it could easily be any other dog. Let you know as soon as we get information.

Many people have been asking about the ALIY CAM. We hope to get a video card from Aliy in Unalakleet.

You guys are doing such a great job! I know Ally is getting all the attention right now but, she couldn't do this without all of you helping. Thanks for getting us as much information as quickly as you can. Let Ryne know we are cheering her on too. Really looking forward to the Ally cam again.

Did you see the ADN video from Ruby. It is very cute, and it sounds like Aliy says that she dropped Viper.

ADN has a great video of her coming through Ruby. She said she was dropping Viper because he was getting too skinny. The dogs looked jazzed up!

Other people commenting have probably already told you (or you've discovered on your own) that the ADN site had a brief video of Aliy in Ruby. It sounded to me like she said she was dropping Viper. Of course we await you to confirm - not trying to start rumors - just relating what it sounded like she said.

She's having such an awesome race - I hesitate to think to much about it or express it out loud, since I fear she'll be jinxed by all the "winner" predictions.

Regardless she's doing what she does best, she's putting the dogs first and seems to be having a great time. Can't ask for anything more.

Go Red Team!

anchorage daily news video of Aliy giving out an SPKennel hat to a native woman in Ruby quotes Aliy as saying she was dropping Viper... could not catch the reason.

Regarding the Aliycam...Don't worry about me, for one! I'm at the edge of my computer chair watching the data nuggets available! A big WOOF, WOOF to the team (which includes musher Aliy)!!!

Thanks for the update, Kaz! It's been interesting watching her play leapfrog with the other mushers!! Of course it's very exciting seeing her 20 some odd miles ahead now. Guess the others are taking their 8 at Ruby. Wonder where Aliy's will be!?!

I've watched Aliy race last year. I'm back at it again this year. Love your blog. This is one of the most exciting races ever! Good luck! Next year, I think I'll leave my computer screen and volunteer! Go Dogs!!! GO!!!!

Personally, I am amused at the lengths that Joe Runyan is going to avoid acknowledging Aliy as a legitimate contender.

She continues to run a brilliant race this year. Good work, SPK team for superb support to her and all of us.

It is strange that Joe can't seem to connect Aliy's name with the word "leader."

The ADN clip seems like Aliy is very focused. She has her game plan and is keeping to it.

Red Team - You can do it!!!
Happy feet all the way to Nome.

I am very hopeful that Aliy pulls it off. It's hard to read the news reports and analyses who really don't see Aliy as having a strong enough or fast enough team to win. Danny Seavy had a very gracious post on their facebook, which he reposted on an Iditarod forum. He said he would be happy to see Aliy win.

I appreciate how you have emphasized repeatedly, Kaz, how Aliy has a plan and she is sticking to it. In my book, regardless of whether she wins or not, it is obvious that Aliy is making a statement this year. Good for her. Aliy, when you read this later, know that you are admired.

Thanks for updating us on how Aliy and Ryne are doing. I hope Ryne is having fun out there.

Aliy and Allen always do what is best for the dogs! That is why we follow them. What a great run they are having this year!

on sebastian schnuelle's FB wall, there is a short video of aliy & her dogs on the way to galena. the dogs look really frisky.

the same when she came into galena: the dogs looked great. eyes looked good.

if you are on the insider, you can watch a video & see mitch coming in with his dogs to galena.

I think, looking at pictures & videos, they tell more as some reports. those often show much more the "personal problems" the writer have....

sebastian schnuelle has given so far good reports.

Yes! She is in Nulayo ! Last night @ your time 1 am, updated official site 12:42 am, there was no update of her.staying ahead for this very long time, having the lead, the better strtegy and most of all the better, maybe not faster, but best dogs in the world is THE headline in this most eloquent field of winners. No matter what a Joe macho writes or not writes, no matter who comments or not. Aliy can win this and she is the best. I send her all the strength, focus on the dogs, spirits of all surrounding her whispering good luck, and a little wind to help her soar. Keep courage and awake!
Our hearts with the dogs and you.

There's no questions but what Aliy is making a huge statement by running her own plan and focusing on her team. Once again, she and everyone that's part of her crew are awesome role models for so many groups.

Thanks again Kaz. Hunter and I are on Alaska Airlines headed for Nome for the finish and what do I see? The airline magazine has a full article "Team Spirit" featuring Aliy (with the gorgeous photo of Aliy out of Unalakleet from 2010). Beautiful and timely. So much for the naysayers. Go Aliy and dogs!
