ID: On The Road to Anchorage

While Aliy and Allen are in musher meetings all day, 36 of their best friends are on the way down the Parks Highway to Anchorage. Mark and Chris sent through these pics from their pit-stop along the way.

We have 36 in the trucks as the teams are not completely finalised yet and Rambler and Tig are visiting Anchorage with us!

The athletes look like they know where they're headed! Question for the crew... can you explain how the front of the truck works with that bar/extender to hook the team when you're stopped... is it out all the time like "wings" or do you need to attach it each time you stop? Just curious. GO SPK!!!

Way to go Rambler & Tig. The awesome SPK race dogs look so well behaved, like they know this routine well. Thanks for taking the pictures Mark & Chris so us fans can see this part of the pre-race process. We soak up every bit of it. Go SPK!!!!!

Jeanne Hammel - The bars in the front/back of the truck are the same length as the front and back bumpers. there are slightly smaller metal bars that fit inside them and slide out (about 3 feet on each side). We attach a metal cable from front to back of the truck on each side. each dog has a short chain they attach to. Then when we are done, we unclip the cables on each side, hang them in the back of truck, and slide in the metal bars and clip with cotter pin so they don't come out unexpectedly. - wendy
