ID: Monday Morning Update

Good morning!

Aliy and the Red Team have just passed through Finger Lake checkpoint. The standings show that she has left one dog there with the vets but at this stage we have no way of knowing who it is and why. We'll get that to you once we find out so we appreciate your patience.

The Red Team mushed to Skwentna where they stopped for almost four hours and are now headed towards Rainy Pass. Whether or not they will go all the way there and rest at the checkpoint or camp between is unknown at this point. The run from Skwenta to Rainy Pass is around 70 miles so Aliy may take them all the way which would then mean they rest in the heat of the day.

Allen and the Black Team didn't stop in Skwentna. Having stopped on the trail earlier for a couple of hours they spent just half and hour at the checkpoint to get supplies then camped on the other side for about four hours. This is probably a good move for the young team as the checkpoints in the early stages of the race are very busy and camping on the trail will give them more peace and quiet and a better chance at getting some rest. With the temperatures being so mild it is likely they had a very pleasant stop. The Northern Lights were out last night so the mushers would have enjoyed the scenery!

I'm working on the pictures from yesterday and will get them to you soon.

My friend saw the Black Team come into Finger Lake and said they looked fantastic....lots of barks and tail wagging! Wish I was watching the live feed like she was...I missed them! Red Team resting now...I'm sure there will be some pictures posted once they blow through Rainy Pass!

It's been pretty warm out. I know Aliy had Mac in the sled earlier and carried him through the first checkpoint, since it didn't cool off much do you think she would have dropped Mac?

I saw the Red Team on the live feed come through Finger Lake. Sandy was clearly visible in harness, pulling just in front of Clyde. I am also hoping she does well in her first big race and took note of her. Unfortunatly, I had to leave and couldn't take the time to analyze who was in the bag.

What happened to Aliy? It is 4pm AK time and she left Finger Lake @ 7:02 this morning, 9h's ago. The chart shows her in place 40 and Allen already in Rainy Pass. Where is she?

Thanks for the updates. So many teams this year on the trail.
Surprised at the mushers who are sick Buser, Wade, Dallas. Not slowing Dallas down though.

Sending my thoughts for the dropped dog.

There is a video of Aliy camping and they showed the dogs curled up the ground. I have a hard time making them out when they are standing let alone in a ball. It looked like Mac is missing. Sandy was there and it looked like she wasn't sharing the place on the line.
