YQ SPK Coverage Guide

During the Yukon Quest the SP Kennel Crew will endeavour to keep our fans and supporters as up-to-date as possible. Our main update reports will be on the Doglog with supplementary photos on Instagram and Facebook.

Moira is part of the handler crew out on the trail and will be covering the "on the ground" action with update reports, photos and maybe some videos from the checkpoints - remember we are travelling in sometimes very remote Yukon and Alaskan areas so coverage is uncertain at this point. You may also hear from Kaz and Macgellan during the race to give a different perspective and fill in some blanks.

This year, thanks to our brand new smartphones and accessories provided by Verizon, coupled with their 4G LTE network in Alaska and roaming partners in the Yukon, we have set up an Instagram account (username spkennel) and we'll post pictures to both our Instagram and Facebook pages. Remember Allen and Aliy are not able to carry cellphones out on the trail (no two-way communication devices are allowed) but the handler crew will have fun playing with them instead! We may even have a few surprises in store for you.

Our first couple of Instagram pictures: travelling the ALCAN, enjoying Whitehorse

Of course, alongside our unapologetically SPK focussed coverage, the Yukon Quest website, Facebook page and twitter feed will have updates and a leader board with official times in and out of checkpoints. You will be able to hear about all the other teams in the race there.

Also on the Quest website you will find the Trackers for live tracking during the 1000 mile race. You will likely become very familiar with that page by the end of the race. I know we do!

There will be a news media contingent following the race with reporters and photographers on the trail. Race sponsors the Whitehorse Daily Star and the Fairbanks Daily Newsminer will be there, as well several radio stations and other news media outlets. We will try to keep an eye on these sources and link you to stories now and again.

We thank you in advance for your patience as we get team updates and information about any dropped dogs to you. Rest assured we all will be doing our best to get you the information as quickly as possible.

We hope you enjoy following along!
