Yukon Quest Practice Run

The Yukon Quest starts on February 5th in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. The finish line is 1,000 miles and 10 plus days away in downtown Fairbanks, Alaska.

The SP Kennel sled dogs (and mushers) got to see the last 80 miles of this race trail during several practice runs this week. The idea is to get the dogs familiar with these last miles. That way, they know where they are going and what happens when they get there.

Aliy greeted the two dog teams at the "finish line". They had a tasty meal and straw beds to roll in. The dogs were then de booted and unharnessed. After this, they were walked 30 feet up the river bank to the Big Red Dog Truck which was parked in the River Park parking lot.

A smooth Yukon Quest "Practice Run"!

I know that you have a job to do Aliy, but GOSH I sure wished for another 3 or 4 minutes on this video...it would have been great to see and hear the team sweep into close camera view!!!

I did kinda cut it off at the end there! I think I got excited to see the teams ... probably just like you did! Sorry.
But, hey.... will you be in or around Fairbanks in two weeks? Now THAT should be exciting! If I can't find an extra cameraman (Macgellan is MIA right then!) - you might hear me sobbing in the background!

I was only being selfish...hee hee...checking in on the DogLog is a big part of my day, and I am happy for ANY updates! Thanks so much for sharing your exciting life with us.
I live in Edmonton Alberta, and live my "mushing adventures" entirely through your blog.
I am hoping to have my first Siberian puppy join my family this summer...and I already have the video camera to track our adventures together! Thanks for the inspiration!
Keep up the GREAT JOB!

How many teams are going to run the Yukon Quest? I thought it was going to be only Allen.

Ooops--of course I meant to say that it was nice to see the video from Fairbanks; haven't a clue why I wrote Anchorage instead!

How very cool to be racing through the middle of a major city. Worlds collide.
